Nomenclature; Ginkgo biloba L.

ICHO is named 'Ginkgo' in English, same as its scientific name.
In Japanese, the expression by chinese characters consists of 'GIN' + 'KYOU'.
This is same as its scientific name too.
This is because its home is china.
Very popular tree along the streets and almost all of japanese love this tree.
Leaves are thick and juicy. if walk on the leaves fallen , watch your steps because very slippery.
ICHO is dioecism. In the autumn, many fruits (color orange) are seen on the female tree. The fruits are covered by pulp that smells very bad.

I guess many tourists to Tokyo which love plants can not find out plant -guidebooks of Tokyo in their home.
It is because Tokyo is a representative of urban business cities in the world, not the place like Alps, Hawaii etc.
But If you would come here, you will see many kinds of plants in parks , along streets and the others.
Taking the photos of plants is my pastime.
This is the reason I will try to introduce them.
